Mozilla, this week, revealed its plan of coming up with Aurora, a concept video touting the future of Web browsing, that looks even more impressive than
Firefox 3.
Aurora was designed with the intent of creating what the Web of the future will look like.
"Aurora is intended to serve as a springboard for an open discussion about how to evolve the user experience of the Web browser," according to
Adaptive Path, a San Francisco-based design firm that is developing Aurora for Mozilla Labs.
The
Concept Series consists of three parts - ideas, mockups, or prototypes. Mozilla Labs' strategy is simple - start off with an idea draft, visualize it through mock-ups, and then make a working prototype.
"If it's a mockup, put it on Flickr. If it's a prototype, host it on your Web site. Tag it with 'mozconcept' and then let us know about it by posting to the Concept Series discussion forum," Mozilla wrote on the blog.
The Concept Series features three user interface concepts -
Aurora concept,
Bookmarking & History concept, and
Mobile concept. The Aurora concept depicts the potential of changing the look and feel of the browser radically. The Bookmarking and History concept is about organizing them in a cool way through a better UI design, while the Mobile Concept is about Firefox's interaction, interface, and experience on the mobile devices.
Aurora appears to have a clear vision behind it. So far, only one video of the envisioned browser usage has been posted, but it is already apparent that AdaptivePath’s idea are based on talking advantage of a semantic web and analyzing the meaning of content to create relationships between certain objects. According to the company, a capability to automatically organize contacts, content and the association between them will enable users to interact in an easier and more meaningful way.
Mozilla put out the call via its blog to industry, higher education and people from around the world to get involved and share their ideas and expertise as we collectively explore and design future directions for the Web.
