Dell Business Laptops Gets A Makeover Done

Dell recently launched its new range of Latitude laptops and Precision mobile workstations. Dell said that the new 'E' range of its Latitude family of laptops would be characterized by much longer battery life, up to 19 hours, and greater security, allowing a company to wipe information off a machine remotely should it be stolen, for example.

The Latitude E4200 and E4300 are ultraportables. The E4200 has a 12.1-inch LED backlit display, Intel Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage processors up to the 1.4GHz SU9400, up to 5GB of DDR3 memory, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, and either a 64GB or 128GB SSD. Dell said it would be its smallest and lightest Latitude ever, weighing in at 2.2 pounds.

The E4300, with its 13.3-inch LED backlit display, is a bit bigger (3.3 pounds), which gets room for standard voltage processors up to the 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SP9400. Other specs are similar though you can choose between a 64GB SSD or standard hard disk drives. Pricing was not disclosed, but the laptops are expected to be available withing few weeks.

For companies looking for a basic business notebook to reduce costs, Dell unveiled the 14.1-inch E5400, which starts at USD 839, and the 15.4-inch E5500, which starts at USD 869. The systems were available Tuesday.

The next in the league is the Latitude E6400 ATG, meeting the Military 810F standards for dust, vibration and humidity. This 14.1 inch semi-rugged laptop includes features such as a "shock-mounted hard drive" and a screen that is viewable in bright outside light. E6400ATG, priced at USD 2,399, will hit the markets next week. The Dell Latitude E6400 and E6500, 14.1 inch and 15.4 inch laptops will be available today at a starting price of USD 1,139 and USD 1,169, respectively.

The new range of Dell laptops will deliver 19 hours of batttey life - ten hours on a straight charge, and a further nine if the owner plugs in a "battery slice". An high-speed charger will also mean that 80 per cent of the battery life acan be recovered in a hour, Dell said.

In addition to this ‘E’ series of laptops, Dell also introduced 14.1-inch Precision M2400 and 15.4-inch Precision M4400 workstations. The Dell Precision M2400 weighs about 2.16 Kgs and claims to be the lightest mobile workstation. This 14.1 inch system is available for USD 1,449, where as the M4400 would retail for USD 1,569.
