iPhone 3G to Be Unveiled This Month in India
Finally, the launching date of much-awaited 3G iPhone in the Indian market has been declared.
Both the official carriers, Airtel and Vodafone, have announced to launch the 3G iPhone on 22 August 2008. It was earlier reported in the media that only Airtel would be launching the service. However now it has been confirmed that even Vodafone will be selling iPhones from the same date.
Airtel and Vodafone subscribers have already been asked to pre-register for the iPhone on the companies’ respective websites and one would imagine it is these people who will get the first iPhone devices in India.
President, Bharti Airtel mobile services Sanjay Kapoor said, “ iPhone has been an iconic technological revelation of this year and Airtel has been at the forefront of innovation and customer delight in the Indian telecom sector.”
The 3G iPhone has been priced around USD 199 and USD 299 as per the capacity and the contract bundled with the phone. However, the price details of the iPhone in India have not been released, but it is expected to retail for Rs 20,000.
Some of the novel features in the new version include fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store. Support for Microsoft Exchange Server will bring push e-mail, contacts and calendar, remote wipe, global contacts access, and auto-discovery to the iPhone.
